Dawn Of The Dead is the sequel to Night of the living dead and takes up where Night of the Living Dead left off. The main story is about four individuals that find a deserted shopping mall and lock themselves in, hiding from the zombie-infested population.

I have always been interested in the zombie taking over the world storyline. This film is the best example of that story that I have seen. It holds nothing back. It's very graphic and gory. It feared being banned before it was released.

Dawn Of The Dead Zombie Background

It creates a great sense of fear and survival that is yet to be replicated by any other movie. It will immerse you in the story like many other great films.

The film's visuals and effects are solid. Although they're showing their age, this doesn't stop the movie from being enjoyable.

Night of the living dead was first, but the original Dawn Of The Dead of the deceased is responsible for and inspired many if not all of the recent zombie recreations. So if you're a fan of scary movies and zombie movies, this is one you should make time to watch.

Review:

We have a reissue of famed filmmaker George A. Romero's 1978 novelization of the iconic zombie film Dawn of the Dead, with academic help from Susanna Sparrow and a brief introduction by actor Simon Pegg–who is, as we all know, the patriarch of a post-voodoo apocalyptic zombie narrative.

Dawn Of The Dead Zombies In Mall

Why would anyone want to republish an old book or rerelease an old film?

For starters, it's a gorgeous trade paperback–even though the front cover features the usual dead man's hand with outstretched fingers yearning for an orange sky.

But what does the book bring to the table that the film doesn't and why read it when you can watch it?

Because the novel rather than a script, a character's motive in the film may be murky at times, but not in the book because you get entry to each character's psyche & inspiration you don't receive in the movie.

In every other manner, the book is identical to the film, except for a few tiny variations, such as a dog in the novel who didn't make it to the big screen.

Suppose you haven't watched the movie but still want to read the book. In that case, you'll get a satisfactory zombie narrative that seems somewhat monotonous because you've seen it all before a hundred times.

However, keep in mind that it has never been anything like this until the first Dawn of the Dead picture unless you count Night of the Living Dead.

Dawn Of The Dead Zombie Face

This film served as the inspiration for practically every zombie narrative that followed, both in novels and on screen. It was one-of-a-kind at the time.

At the movie's end, the characters rush towards the second bus, encountering zombie Steve.

Ana kills him and then needs to wait a while before grabbing the boat keys from his body, allowing more zombies to chase them.

Ana rushes back to the bus, which Michael assists her in boarding.

After a brief battle, they break free and rush to the marina pier, where they collide with the bus and dash for the boat. C.J. detonates the last propane tank after they are besieged in the bus by their pursuers, destroying the vehicle, the zombies, and himself.

The rest of the gang boards the boat, except for Michael, who was bitten while assisting Ana.

Dawn Of The Dead Angry Zombie Face

Terry, Ana, Kenneth, Nicole, and Chips board the boat with Terry, Ana, Kenneth, Nicole, and Chips, but he refuses to join them.

Ana stands still as Michael pulls his handgun, positions it under his chin, and fires one more shot over the ocean.

The closing credits roll, mixed with footage filmed by Terry from the boat using a camera. Finally, the last survivors reach an island, only to be assaulted by a fresh swarm of zombies after a problematic voyage during which water, gasoline, and food supplies all run out.

The camera falls to the ground and goes dark as the survivors struggle to get back to the boat, leaving their fate undetermined.

I hope you enjoyed my review of Dawn Of The Dead.
